Overview

LBST 202 is designed to introduce students to the field of labour studies and to prepare students for the Labour College of Canada residential program. Professors from various academic disciplines at Athabasca University wrote the course, which is a sampler of the types of subjects that can be pursued as part of labour studies.

LBST 202 begins with a general introduction to labour studies and follows with an overview of Canadian labour history, a survey of the social organization of work, an overview of labour law, and an analysis of the relationship between politics, economics, and labour. Upon completion of LBST 202, students should have a better understanding of the place of working people and the labour movement in society, as well as a sense of the range of material that exists in labour studies.
