Internally Funded Research
There are internal research funding opportunities available as noted below:
Academic and Professional Development Fund
Individuals eligible to apply for A&PDF funds are AUFA members holding academic or professional regular staff appointments. Allocations for individuals holding regular part-time appointments will be pro-rated accordingly. For staff members holding regular term appointments, both the application deadline date and the date(s) of the activity must fall within the time of their appointment.
Academic Research Fund and Mission Critical Research
Internal research competitions are open to all Athabasca University academic and professional staff. Interested tutors are encouraged to collaborate with full-time academics as lead applicants to bring their research interests forward.
AVPR Special Research Opportunities
Internal applicants seeking funding for short-term special research opportunities may submit requests for financial support to the Associate Vice President Research (AVPR) for one-time funds for the purpose of securing external funding and/or establishing collaborations/partnerships, in support of their AU research related activities.
Research Grant in Lieu of Salary
Under certain conditions, Athabasca University staff conducting research may be entitled to receive a grant in lieu of salary (RGILS). Eligible AU staff members may apply. The grant may be expended for all the purposes in support of the research, except for the salary of the principal investigator. The grant covers only approved research expenditures and is not intended to cover projects directed at teaching or the development of teaching (course development, professional development) or teaching-related skills.
President's Award for Research and Scholarly Excellence
PARSE is intended as an award given in recognition of a record of excellence in research scholarship carried out by a full-time member of the AU faculty or staff. It is given for the specific purpose of bringing a major project to completion in a way which will result in a publishable manuscript (book or monograph) at the completion of the grant period. It is further expected that this manuscript will, in fact, be published within a reasonable time after the completion of the award period.
