Arts and Science Research Talks
The Arts and Science Research Talk series was started in 2005 to provide a venue for Athabasca faculty to share their research with the University community. We also envisioned a space where graduate students, tutors and visiting speakers could present their work.
We strive to represent a range of academic interests and topics from all of the Arts and Science Centres with the aim of fostering an excitement about our intellectual interests and a supportive environment to encourage networking among our faculty and staff. Sharing our intellectual output is an important aspect of university life.
In Athabasca University’s networked environment, this can present some challenges. In order to complement the successful Lunch 'n' Learn series in Athabasca, and the Centre for Innovative Management’s Collaborative Research Forum in St. Albert, it was decided to hold the Arts and Science Research Talks in Edmonton at the Edmonton Learning Centre.
We broadcast the talks via web conferencing to allow off-site participation as well as later viewing of the recorded series.
Our first year was highly successful, featuring award winning poet George Elliot Clarke as a guest speaker, as well as a range of our own Athabasca University academics. We look forward to a continuing tradition of interesting and wide-ranging talks.
