These alternative assignments are for native English speakers taking English 140; they are alternative to the telephone quizzes. If you prefer to do the telephone quizzes, you can. These alternative assignments are meant to help you gain the maximum benefit from the course. There are two exercises to complete for each assignment. The first one is an error analysis exercise, and the second one is a paragraph writing exercise. You must complete both exercises in each assignment; each exercise is worth 50% of the mark for that assignment.

Error Analysis Instructions:
In the error analysis sections there are approximately 40 errors in total in each assignment. Use this number as a guide only, as there is often more than one way to rewrite a sentence correctly, therefore the actual number of errors may vary slightly depending on the type of correction you make. If you are doing these exercises on a computer, do NOT rely on spellchecker or grammar check to identify and correct the errorsthese programs will mislead you!

Paragraph Writing Instructions:
Follow the directions for each assignment, and please identify the target grammar by using highlighting or bolding.

If you have any questions about any of these instructions, please contact your tutor before you submit your first assignment.
