To obtain credit for Art History 201/History 203, you must submit three written assignments and write two examinations of two hours’ duration. The assignment topics are in the manual. If you have difficulty choosing a topic, your tutor will help you select an appropriate one. Before doing your assignments or writing the exams, please reread the sections in the manual on writing essays and exams.
We strongly recommend that you follow the order suggested in the course schedule in the manual: complete your assignments and review your tutor’s comments before you write the exams. Preparing the assignments and receiving your tutor’s comments on them will be helpful in your preparation for the exams.
We have designed Assignment 1 as an introduction to writing about art. It gives you practice in analysing a piece of art by looking closely at it and answering specific relevant questions about it. We recommend that you complete this assignment and review your tutor’s comments on it before beginning your second assignment.
