For Undergraduate Students

With over 40 Undergraduate English courses, the Centre for Language & Literature offers one of the most varied programs at Athabasca University. Students can take individual courses, earn a Bachelor of Arts in English (three– and four–year degrees) or a Bachelor of Arts in Canadian Studies (four–year degree).

Courses span a wide range of topics from remedial writing skills, to children’s literature, to drama, to theory, to individualized reading and research. The undergraduate English program is particularly strong in Canadian literature.

We recommend new program students begin with basic literature courses: ENGL 211 and ENGL 212.

For Graduate Students

In partnership with the Centre for Integrated Studies, we offer a growing number of graduate-level English courses and related integrated-study (MAIS) courses as well as individual courses.
